Stanley Cup Betting: Odds and Predictions For Online Bookies

It looked like the NHL Stanley Cup was all but over just a few days ago. The reigning champion Pittsburgh Penguins not only won games 1 and 2, but did so in dominating fashion.

When the best of seven series shifted to Nashville, and the Predators’ hometown crowd got behind them, many expected the series to finally take off.

They were right, and the Stanley Cup final is now even at two games apiece after Nashville’s game 4 win over Pittsburg, 4-1.

Nashville showed it still has something left as it attempts to become one of the NHL’s elite teams. But game 5 sees the series return to Pittsburgh, where the Penguins outscored their southern opponents 9-4.

There is no doubt the raucous Nashville support helped the Predators, but the team must win on the road, at least once, if it is to hoist Sir Stanley’s Cup.

Pittsburgh Remain Favorites

Pittsburgh is still Stanley Cup betting favorites at –125. The series is now just a best of three series, with Pittsburgh getting two of the possible three games at home.

Game 5 is at PPG Paints Arena in the Steel City along with a possible game 7. Nashville must take one of those two games to have a chance at winning the series.

Of course, game 6 will be back in Nashville, and one team will have the chance to close things out in Music City.

Nashville outscored the Penguins 9-2 on its home ice, and with three games to play, it looks like either team could win the series.

The Pressure is On

It is fair to say, both hockey teams have plenty of pressure on them going into game 5. Nashville (+105) hasn’t won on the road in the series.

And Pittsburgh could face elimination on the Predators home ice, which would be an unenviable task, if it drops game 5.

The Predators are 9-1 straight up at home, which puts a lot of pressure on Pittsburgh to win Thursday night’s game 5 before going to Music City.

Game 5 Odds

Pittsburgh is –155 according to Bovada for Thursday’s game 5 at home. Meanwhile, Nashville come in at +135. Pittsburgh was favorites going into game 4 as well (-200).

But the Predators were able to best the reigning cup champions. Can the underdogs due it again in game 5, 6 or even 7? It will be a tough task for the Predators.

Stanley Cup Prediction

With two of a possible three games left to play at home, Pittsburgh should get the job down. The team has been in this situation before and are reigning Stanley Cup champions for a reason.

The last team to win back-to-back titles was Detroit in 1997 and 1998, and the Penguins could make history with their sixth Stanley Cup win. Predators’ goaltender Pekka Rinne has been outstanding.

He stopped 48 of Pittsburgh’s 50 shots in game 3. But the Penguins will have just enough to seal the deal in seven games, and will end Nashville’s romantic rise to the Stanley Cup finals.
