2018 World Series: Clash of Titans with Dodgers vs. Red Sox

Sunday, 21 October 2018 / Published in Bookie Tips

After the L.A. Dodgers closed the door on the Milwaukee Brewers, two of the most popular teams in Major League Baseball will duke it out in the World Series. Boston Red Sox are favorites. Make no mistake, per head agents will accept plenty of action on the Dodgers, though.

Check out a preview of the first 4 games in the 7-game Fall Classic along with predictions on how wagering goes.

World Series:  First 4 Games

Game 1:  L.A. Dodgers at Boston Red Sox

Boston’s listed Chris Sale as their Game 1 starter. Dodgers haven’t yet said who will start Game 1 for them. It almost assuredly will be ace Clayton Kershaw. If it is Kershaw, Game 1 sets up as one of the best pitching duels in World Series history.

Sale dominates the American League. He has for years while Kershaw’s dominated the National League for years. Once Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts announces that Kershaw is indeed the starter, wagers should flow to both sides.

Dodgers and Kershaw should have a slight edge because we don’t know how long Sale can pitch. Set max betting limits on both teams.

Game 2:  L.A. Dodgers at Boston Red Sox

If Roberts does start Kershaw to throw Game 1, it’s hard to see how he doesn’t start Rich Hill to throw Game 2. Hill has some experience against Boston batters, having spent time as an Oakland Athletics player earlier in his career. Not enough stats give us a real impression of how Hill might perform against the Red Sox, though.

No matter because David Price ensures the Red Sox are big favorites, maybe even -180, to beat the Dodgers in Game 2. It’s difficult to see L.A. having much success against Price and the Red Sox at Fenway. Ensure max betting limits are in place on the Dodgers, but don’t get too worried if L.A. seems over bet.

Game 3:  Boston Red Sox at L.A. Dodgers

It’s likely Los Angeles sends Walker Buehler to the mound in Game 3. Buehler was great in 4.2 innings against the Brewers in his last. Buehler allowed a single earned run. He’s the reason the Dodgers won NLCS Game 7.

Whether Buehler starts or not, the Red Sox should win Game 3 behind Rick Porcello’s arm. Porcello’s been fantastic in the post-season. He’s allowed 5 earned runs off 12 hits from a combined 10.2 innings.

Hard to see the Dodgers having much success against Rick Porcello. If things go as planned, Red Sox should take a 3-1 lead into Game 4.

Game 4:  Boston Red Sox at L.A. Dodgers

Hyun-Jin Ryu should start Game 4. Brewers blasted Ryu in NLCS Game 6. Ryu’s got a chance to make amends in Game 4 in the World Series because his home ERA is 1.15. Ryu’s unhittable at Dodger Stadium.

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora might throw away Game 4 if he’s got a 3-1 lead over the Dodgers. No reason to push Sale or Price to close the door on L.A. in Game 4 if Cora believes Ryu provides his usual Chavez-Ravine magic. If Cora does go after Ryu, he could screw up the rest of his rotation.

Current Red Sox vs Dodgers World Series Odds

Boston Red Sox                      -155

L.A. Dodgers                          +300

Red Sox are favored -155 to beat the L.A. Dodgers and win the World Series. Bookies must set max betting limits on both Red Sox and Dodgers. Plenty of World Series bettors will put money on Dodgers to take it while Boston bettors will dump on the Red Sox. Make sure to set max betting limits on both teams.
